My son holds me accountable for my choice of words!
A female colleague calls me for clarification while my son and I were carrying out a task, so I answered her on the speaker. At the end of our discussion, I said, “see you tonight,” and hung up.
Then Oche (my son) asked, “dad, what do you mean by ‘see you tonight’?” 😔
I had to explain how I always work into nights, and that by the time I’m closing from work, others are resuming, so that’s when I see them. So that explains why I said, “see you tonight.” My explanation was acceptable to him, so he said “oh!”
I recall when our daughter, Agbenu was about 2 years old, and one day she went with me to the store. I wanted to surprise my wife with a hair product that I imagined she’d like. So I approached a lady on the aisle to ask her opinion. Immediately she held out her hand (🤚) like a stop sign (🛑) against the lady and yelled “no!” She’s was been protective of her mom’s territory it seemed. We both understood and had a good laugh while I reassured my daughter that I was only trying to get a present for mom.
Our kids are constantly watching the interplay between us and our spouses, and how we live our lives. Needless to say, that, we better be mindful of what we dish out!
