Did you guys dance like that?
Still relishing the Christmas season in the coziness of the New Year’s Day night, Sweetheart and I were watching the “The Princess Switch” movie while the kids were going about their business in the game room.
After a while, Ofu walked in drably to us and said: “I’m bored, I don’t know what to do.”
To quickly pacify him so I can continue watching the movie, I said: “come, let me carry you and let’s watch this movie together.”
For sure, he never lets any cuddling opportunity to slide past without grabbing it. Swiftly, he curled himself into my bosom (as always) and settled into watching with us.
The scene came where the gorgeous Stacy DeNovo (switch Duchess of Montenaro) alights graciously down the stair, and the charmed Crown Prince Edward of Belgravia strolled to greet her. They met under the mistletoe and were compelled to kiss, even especially by the surrounding cheer of mischief.
Then shyly, Ofu partly covered his face. So I said, “it’s ok, they are about to get married. Someday you too will be married, and you will kiss your wife.”
Sweetheart: “Yes, tell daddy how many kids you’d like to have.”
Ofu: With a four-finger gesture, he said “four, two boys and two girls.”
Me: “Awesome! Hi-five.”🙋♂️
Next, as Prince Edward led Stacy DeNovo into the ballroom and they began to dance, Ofu asked: “did you guys dance like that?”
Me: “Yes. Do you like it?” 😊
Ofu: Nodding, “yes.”
Me: Cuddling him more, “I’ll teach you at the right time. Ok?”
Ofu: Settling in further, “ok.”
And so we watched on.
At the end of the movie, he said “It was a really, really, really good movie. Maybe we should all watch it together again as a family with my…”
Me: “Oh, your friends?” 😊
Ofu: “No, they’re not my friends, they’re my brothers.”
Me: “Oh really? What are their names?” (Smiling but seriously suppressing my laughter)
Ofu: “Winnie and Pingu, you already know Pingu.”
Me: “Sure, I know Pingu. Yes, we can all watch it together again as a family.”
Insights:
It was the kind of evening that Delilah of Sunny 99.1 iHeart Radio on her nightly show would say to slip into one’s sappy love feelings, so she can help smooth out the rough edges of the day.
The evening turned out to be the making of another memorable moment. There was a progression of a heart-to-heart conversation. Behind his childish naivety, I thought Ofu revealed the character of his soul. In another way, he expressed some of our shared values: love, marriage, family, harmony, togetherness, fun, learning from modeling, endearment…
The quality time and sweet interactions of the evening, as with all other times are all about deepening our emotional connection. I came away with the conclusion that Ofu was “saying” by implication that “when the chips are down, this is who I’ll be.” And that’s so good! ❤
